Updated design and tech for G20 model
The BMW G20 3 Series saloon and estate have received their mid-cycle update inside and out, keeping up with the recently updated Mercedes C-Class and borrows styling cues from its bigger 5 series brother. a little over three years since arriving in dealerships, in a bid to fend off the newer Mercedes C-Class.
Entering production this July and expected to be replaced around 2025 by an EV offering, the G20 codenamed 3 series accounts for 14%of BMW’s worldwide sales.
The 3 series remains with a choice of pure petrol, petrol-electric plug-in hybrid, and a diesel powertrain assisted by a 48V mild-hybrid functionality. The highlight as of now is the 369bhp M340i, the entry level model is now the 182bhp 320i, as the 318i and 318d are no longer listed.
The 2022 facelifted 3 Series is clearly recognisable by its new-look front design, with trimmer LED headlights with L-shaped Daytime running lights being most noticeable, the new front is joined a gloss black revamped grille and brake cooling vents for a sharper look. At the rear, the lights stay virtually the same while remodelled bumpers and trim elements point to a more sophistication. The M Sport trim level models have greater design tweaks with a distinct hexagonal lower air intake in the front bumper and a more substantial diffuser at the rear.
New M-Performance exterior upgrades make a debut, this consists of a carbon fibre rear diffuser, bespoke wheel designs and a large rear spoiler.
On the inside of the 3 Series is where the most clear changes are, with the G20 being the latest model to get the latest eighth-generation iDrive system which brings wireless smartphone mirroring, advanced real-time mapping, parking space locator, voice control and over-the-air upgrades and updates. All this is hosted on a new-look curved 14.9in infotainment screen and a 12.3in digital gauge cluster.
Added to the interior styling updates is a new gear selector design, slimmer air vents, and new touch-sensitive buttons on the centre console. Prices for the 2022 3 series range from £36,000 to £52,000.
