Flagship revealed as firm’s most powerful model yet
Alpina has revealed its most powerful model yet in its new flagship GT, an ultra-limited model based on the new 5-Series. The new Alpina B5 GT, which is available in both saloon and Touring estate variants, is powered by a twin-turbo 4.4-litre V8 making 625bhp and 626lb ft of torque. This bests the Alpina B8 Gran Coupé and the BMW Alpina XB7 SUV, both of which produce 612bhp and 590lb ft.
The extra Power from the B5 GT is down to enhanced air intakes and updates to engine software and boost pressures. This allows the saloon to post a 0-62mph time of just 3.4sec and a top speed of 205mph, while the Touring manages the sprint in 3.6sec and top speed is reduced to 200mph.
Power is managed by a ZF eight-speed automatic transmission.
For stopping the GT Alpina has added Brembo four-piston brake callipers with 395mm discs at the front and 398mm at the back, sitting behind a set of 20in forged wheels. Other changes include additional bracing for the front suspension to bolster handling.
On the outside there are six paint finishes to choose from: Arctic Race Blue, Petrol Mica, Verde British Racing Green, Chalk, Imola Red and Daytona Violet. You also get Alpina’s decals in three different shades.
The interior of the B5 GT comes with standard, a heated steering wheel, a Harman Kardon surround-sound system and Anthracite roof lining. The seats are finished with Nappa or Merino leather, walnut wood trim and B5 GT writing. You also get a unique stainless-steel production plaque attached to the centre console. A digital instrument panel sits behind the steering wheel.
Only 250 examples of the B5 GT will be made, available to order now with deliveries expected in July.
