SZ spiritual successor gets GTAm V6
This is the new Alfa Romeo Giulia SWB Zagato, a breathtaking two-door coupé built to celebrate 100 years of the two Italian brands collaboration.
Based on the Alfa Romeo Giulia, the new model receives a totally custom-made carbon fibre body, designed by Alfa's own design team alongside Zagato – headed up by Alejandro Mesonero.
The design is inspired by the 'Sprint Zagato' (SZ) line of Alfa coupés from the late 1950s, which in-turn inspired the 1989 coupé of the same name.
Built on the same ‘Giorgio’ platform as the Giulia, the new Zagato recieves a significantly shortened wheelbase, making proportions similar to the 1989 SZ. Design cues from the new Tonale also appear upfront in the headlight design.
Underneath, it shares the same 533bhp twin-turbo V6 as the hardcore, track-focused Alfa Romeo Giulia GTAm, adding a six-speed manual gearbox. No performance figures have yet to of been released, but given the all carbon fibre makeover, expect a 0-60mph time of around 3.5sec and a top speed of around 190mph.
One lucky unnamed German Alfa Romeo collector has already acquired the vehicle, who also owns a selection of rare Alfa models including an SZ and an 8C Competizione, as well as numerous Zagato-bodied Aston Martins.
